Not really much they can expand up on with the unit choices for land battles. Asia should of had more trade nodes as that is pretty much how most of it interacted during the time period. Africa during the time period sees very little in expansion and conflict due to disease, the trade node system covered that best. Well it missed Africa and most of Asia as they didn't play a role in the setting, the focus being the European Empires. That is a much later point in history with a relatively different world. Well the American Civil War wasn't touched up on in the first Empire as that isn't within it's time period. If the next game is a warhammer reskin with some historical title slapped on you lost me CA and ive played over 5000 hours of total war combined and purchased every single game you have made. Somehow make supplies important maybe something like HOI4 does having supply lines. Proper sieges that take months possibly or a massive battle and alot of casualties.ĭont force each army to have a genarel it limits my tactics allowing me to break off cav and chase down a smaller retreating army like in shogun 2. Heck dont give us tiered troops allow my spears of low quality to wreck a elite cavalry unit because they charged in dont give me a HP level and only show cassualties once I hit an arbitrary number. If they dont do an Empire 2 next then im done with Ttoal war probably im tired of swords and arrows and the smaller compact stories we need an epic world spanning total war hence the name TOTAL WAR.ĭont just reskin warhammer and by god dont give me single entity units if you want that go play warhammer its a much better game around those mechanics. The technology at CA is up to standard, the potential of the game is there and the demand for such games is still very much alive. The Naval battles also could be expanded on and maybe have also sea vs land battles. ![]() A new Empire game would also expand in units and every other thing that CA evolved in the titles that followed. A game can also be historically correct and depict sensitive periods of history while also educate on what is morally accepted and what is not while being an entertainment and educational medium.Įmpire Total War had some technological and creative short comings that a new Empire game would tackle with today s technology including whole parts of the planet missing that were main locations for main events in the period the game was trying to capture like for example South America, Africa and Asia or main players on a global stage in that particular period like Portugal and others as playable nations. Im pretty sure tho a lot of companies in the last 30s years tackled the time period all the same including CA and im pretty sure that setting a game in such a period does not make them or the fans who play their game want to get into slavery or something, as much as watching a WWII movie doesnt make people want to go full Nazi again. Now i know the time period can be a bit sensitive because of colonization, slavery and all that kind of thing that is relatively still fresh in human history timeline and some movie, tv shows and game developers shy away from it while at the same time being tempted by its seductive nature due to the novelty of the discoveries made back then, the logistics involved, the riches found, the interests of different nations crossing each others colonization ambitions and the wars fought both on land and sea. The potential for game structure, map dimension with variety in biomes of maps including exotic places, various empires, both short and long hand weapons, naval combat ( it is also a period in time that includes pirates, a favorite theme in media and popular culture ), national politics between colonial powers over the world s continents, lots of scenarios including the American Civil War and overall feeling of grand strategy have never been fulfilled with the first Empire Total War game. I also like Medieval but if i really had to choose id say Empire. ![]() I think that the first Empire game was a great game when considering all factors and not because of its technical side ( which lacked a lot ) but because of the time period it was representing. I like that time period when it comes to war and politics/history.
